Accessing the FreeGate Gateway from Network Neighborhood
Back to "PC Setup FAQs"

The FreeGate Gateway is accessible from Network Neighborhood. To setup this functionality, some questions about your network must be answered:

Enter a name for the FreeGate Gateway in the "Netbios" field. This is the name that will appear for the FreeGate Gateway in  Network Neighborhood. If you leave the field blank, the FreeGate will default to 'hq'.

What workgroup or domain does your NT Server "belong" to? Enter that name in the "Workgroup" field.

Set the "Workgroup Master" field to "No".

What is the IP Address of your WINS Server? Enter that IP Address in the "WINS Server IP Address" field.

The FreeGate Gateway will update it's WINS information with the data you entered in the "File Sharing" UI.

Any workstations that are obtaining their IP Address (via DHCP) from the FreeGate must release and renew their IP Address (to obtain the updated WINS Information) after you've updated the "File Sharing" UI.

To check your workstation's WINS Server value:

On Windows95, go to DOS and type 'winipcfg' (without the quotes). Click "More Info". The 4th to last field will says "Primary WINS Server". Make sure that IP Address matches the IP Address you entered in the "File Sharing" UI.

For Windows NT (Workstation/Server), use the DOS command 'ipconfig /all'.
